Author: Akilah Witherspoon

A born healer, Akilah is passionate about (w)holistic health. She believes that health is not just physical, but encompasses the mental and the spiritual. She teaches people that self love is the key to better health. She considers herself an advocate, scientist, and design alchemist (she moonlights as a graphic designer). Akilah serves families because she was called to.The birth of her daughter started her on the journey as a birth worker. On that journey she learned, through her own experience and the experiences of the families that she served, essential things for a peaceful and uncomplicated birth experience. Akilah believes a positive birth and postpartum experience is a right, not a privilege and she knows how to empower families to advocate for themselves. She provides prenatal, labor, and postpartum support and brings a unique set of skills and experience to her work. She offers anticipatory lactation guidance and breastfeeding support, childbirth education, placenta tincture/encapsulation services, and perinatal photography. She also has years of experience working with families with multiple children and toddlers and has worked with families to monitor child development and to strengthen parent/child interactions.
